To perform the wet care method on leather gloves, you will need to be careful and patient. Before you start care procedures, you need to find out how the leather is going to react to the chemicals you’re about to use, otherwise, you can ruin the gloves and will not be able to restore them at home.
- The easiest and most popular way to care is washing with baby soap. To do this, slightly wet the gloves in warm water and put them on your hands, so while drying they do not shrink and are not damaged. Then clean them in warm soapy water, as if you were washing your hands. This method helps to remove dirt from the surface without any negative consequences, since baby soap does not dry the leather and does not allow it to crack and shrink.
- The following method is best for gloves made of thin leather; you will need: warm water, a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, and laundry detergent, preferably one made for hand washing. The solution is prepared according to the following principle: add 5 parts of peroxide hydrogen and any powdered laundry detergent and 1 part of ammonia to 60 parts of water, then carefully mix all the components. Be sure to observe the proportions and the sequence of cleaning the gloves from dirt, otherwise, you can end up with stains and ghosting, and your gloves will be ruined. Pour the solution over the entire gloves, then clean them with a soft rag, and then dry the gloves, but not near the radiator or under the sun. After this procedure, the gloves will become shiny, and the risk of them shrinking and scuffing is reduced.
- A solution of 10% ammonia will help you get your gloves soft and shiny. Dilute 1 part ammonia in 4 parts of water, mix thoroughly. Apply the resulting solution to a cotton ball, then use it to remove grease stains from the surface. Be sure to change the cotton ball as it becomes dirty. Then wipe with plain water, or water with vinegar (1 teaspoon of vinegar per 1 liter of water).
